During the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, Katie Zaferes of Hampstead won the Bronze Medal in the Women's Triathlon, which consists of cycling, running, and swimming. Zaferes won the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Championship in the triathlon in 2019.
On the Eastern Shore, in Ocean City, the 14th Island to Island Half Marathon & 5K will take place in May 2021, while the annual Storm Warriors 5K Run/Walk next will be held on November 13, 2021.
The St. Michaels Running Festival will take place on Aug. 21, 2021.
The Annual Governor's Bay Bridge Run (10K) crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from the Eastern Shore to Sandy Point State Park in May from 1985 to 2006. Its successor, the annual Across the Bay 10K (Chesapeake Bay Bridge Run), started in November 2014. The sixth largest 10K in the United States, it next will be run in November 2021.

In Anne Arundel County, the B&A Marathon and Half Marathon next will be held in March 2022. In Maryland's capital city, the Annapolis Striders sponsor marathons and other events, including the annual Annapolis 10-Mile Run, which next is scheduled for August 29, 2021. The annual Annapolis Running Classic will be held on November 13, 2021.
In Baltimore County, the Baltimore Women's Classic 5K will be held in June 2022, at Goucher College. The Baltimore Triathlon will take place at the Hammerman Area of Gunpowder Falls State Park on Oct. 2-3, 2021.

The Maryland Half-Marathon & 5K, a charity run benefiting the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, now held in Maple Lawn in Howard County, will next be held in May 2022. Previously, it had been held in Timonium, Baltimore County.
In Frederick, the Frederick Running Festival will be held in July 2022 and the next Mission 10 Miler will be held in March 2022.
In Montgomery County, the Nanty Narking Nearly 9K & 2 Mile Fun Stroll was held in Sandy Spring in May 2016 and 2017. It followed a path by local historic sites, and offered Civil War era music as well.
