In January 2011, the House Speaker created the Rural Health-Care Work Group. Composed of five delegates, the Work Group considers the accessibility of health care in Maryland's rural areas. It examines matters relating to physician shortages; partnerships with local universities and medical schools; physician reimbursement rate strategies; emergency room use; and the role of statewide emergency medical system in rural ares.
