In June 2019, the Work Group to Study Child Custody Court Proceedings Involving Child Abuse or Domestic Violence Allegations was formed by the General Assembly (Chapter 52, Acts of 2019).
The Work Group studied court processes followed when allegations of child abuse or domestic violence are made during child custody court proceedings. Further, the Work Group considered best practices, and science-based, trauma-informed decisionmaking for children in traumatic situations. Finally, the Work Group made recommendations on how State courts could incorporate the latest science into court proceedings involving the safety and well-being of children and other victims of domestic violence.
Authorization for the Work Group ended November 30, 2020.
