CHARACTER COMMITTEES
To review the character and fitness of applicants to the Maryland State Bar, character committees are appointed by the Court of Appeals in the seven Appellate Judicial Circuits. The committees are made up of volunteer attorneys who investigate and interview these applicants, and, when necessary, hold hearings as to their character and fitness. Thereafter, the committees make recommendations regarding the applicants to the State Board of Law Examiners (Rules Governing Admission to the Bar of Maryland, Rule 19).
