PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
The Board advises the County Council on plans and policies for public recreation, the organization of recreational councils, the establishment of recreational programs, and plans for the acquisition of land for public recreation and open space prepared by the Office of Planning and Zoning.
Fifteen members constitute the Board. Fourteen are appointed to four-year terms by the County Council, and one represents the County Council on the Board (Code Local Government Article, sec. 1-606; County Code, secs. 102-3 through 102-5).
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board assesses the recreational needs and resources of the County and may coordinate with community organizations to promote recreational opportunities for the general public. The Board also reviews the annual budget request prepared by the Director, and makes recommendations to the Director and the County Council on matters of staffing, maintenance, and operation of recreational facilities and programs, as well as on landings, docks, and other public property under its management.
